– Archbishop Atilade warns President Buhari against Islamic coalition with Saudi Arabia – The cleric claims Buhari should not bite more than he can chew
The president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in South-West zone, Magnus Atilade has sent a strong warning to President Muhammadu Buhari. The Sun reports that prominent cleric said: ‘‘President Buhari is advised to thread very carefully. He has a lot on his hands already, he should not allow religion to be added to his numerous challenges. The president need not to be reminded that the constitution of the country guarantees security, and that is what has been keeping us together. The President should not listen to bad advisers”.
”Do we want Nigeria to become object of attack from ISIS and other radical Islamist groups? Already, we are battling with the menace of Boko Haram, why should we go and join that coalition? It is not in our interest at all. Buhari should not bite more than he can chew,’’ Atilade said. He appealed to Christians to stay calm, The archbishop added that CAN will never let any injustice to be meted to them without putting up a strong opposition. Atilade added that Nigeria’s membership of the coalition against terrorism being led by Saudi Arabia will bring nothing but hostility and avoidable crisis. Many Nigerians don’t support the decision of the Buhari government to drag the country into a coalition against terrorism.
