As Beyonce performed her new single Formation, which is widely seen as a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement, she was joined by dancers dressed as Black Panthers (left and main) who gave an ‘X’ gesture with their arms, thought to reference activist Malcolm X. Beyonce had the Super Bowl rocking as she then took to the stage with Bruno Mars and Coldplay (right), putting on a spectacular performance that had the 70,000-strong crowd on its feet. Chris Martin’s band may have been the headline act, but it was Beyonce who blew 120million watching Americans away with a mash-up of Uptown Funk and Crazy Right Now. Coldplay opened with Viva la Vida as hundreds of fans lucky enough to be brought onto the middle of the field danced along, while vibrant dancers dressed as flowers spiraled around them. Lady Gaga cried as she sang the US anthem at the start of the event. Denver Broncos beat Carolina Panthers 24-10.
